I met this amazing and remarkable woman a few years ago. We were both participating at an event at Levana Bratique here in the Pittsburgh area that was focused on pampering women. When I started talking with her, her heart poured out of her, her love to support and serve, her kindness and generosity – every thing exuded out of her. She lit up a room.
What gets her excited? Periods. Yup, that taboo topic that most people don’t like to talk about. Well, she faces that head on! Her goals are very simple: End period poverty, give dignity to all who menstruate, and provide period products upon asking, no explanation needed. She’s been known to walk the streets and hand out period products to homeless folks so they are never in need of a basic necessity.
Prior to meeting her, I never thought about how there are so many people that need these products that don’t have easy access to them. That’s my privilege loud and clear there. I take for granted that when my period starts, I have everything I need to manage that time of the month. Now that I know better, I will do better. I will use my privilege to help those that don’t have that privilege.
I personally have supported her endeavor and I know that she’s going to change the world with her mission. She was recently tasked to provide a refugee family with over 400 period products, and with the help of her community, she was able to do that! I am proud to say that my community came together when we shared about this to help in her efforts. I am so grateful and thankful for a community that supports these kind of missions and jumps in as soon as a need is identified.
The world changes, lives are changed, when women come together to support other women!
I finally had her here for a boudoir session, and she’s pretty much a SUPERMODEL! Am I right?!? Check it out!
