Preparing for Your Boudoir Session
Booking a boudoir session is an exciting step toward celebrating yourself and embracing your unique beauty. With a little preparation, you’ll be ready to fully enjoy the experience and feel confident every step of the way. Here’s what you need to know to prepare for your boudoir session and feel completely at ease when the day arrives.
How do I prepare for my boudoir session?
Boudoir is all about feeling your best, and a little preparation can make a huge difference. Once you book your session with me, you’ll receive a detailed boudoir preparation guide that covers everything you need to know, from skincare and hair tips to posture advice.
The guide includes tips on exfoliation, how to prep your hair, and what to do (and not do) in the days leading up to your session. You’ll also receive emails from me with additional reminders, like what not to wear, where to stop beforehand, and even a few things to practice at home to feel more comfortable during your shoot.
Do I need to get my hair and makeup done?
Hair and makeup are part of the session fee, so you can arrive stress-free! When you come in, we’ll start with a consultation to understand your vision for your look. We’ll chat about your daily beauty routine, the level of “glam” you want in your makeup, and how you’d like your hair styled. Whether you’re going for soft and natural or bold and dramatic, we’ll tailor the look to your preferences.
Our goal is to ensure you feel like the best version of yourself, and we’re open to all the ideas and inspiration you bring.
How do you help clients feel comfortable during the session?
Fun and encouragement are at the heart of every boudoir session. I’ll guide you through the entire process, cheering you on with constant enthusiasm and energy. From the moment we start, I’ll be directing your poses and movements, so you don’t have to think about a thing.
But it’s not just about direction—it’s about energy. You’ll hear me loudly celebrating every pose, letting you know just how incredible you look. I’m not a quiet photographer; I’ll cheer you on from the mountaintops, helping you feel confident and powerful in every shot.
What if I don’t like certain parts of my body?
This is a common concern, and I completely understand. You can share any specific worries with me, and I’ll do my best to work around them. That said, boudoir is about seeing your body as a whole, not reducing yourself to the parts you don’t love.
My goal is to highlight the curves, lines, edges, and shapes that make you uniquely you. Boudoir helps shift the focus away from the areas you might fixate on and celebrates the beauty of your entire self. It’s not about hiding—it’s about embracing all the pieces of you and discovering a new appreciation for your body.
Can I bring someone with me for support?
I typically don’t recommend bringing someone along for your session, and here’s why: this experience is all about YOU.
When someone else is present, they often get bored quickly because the focus is entirely on your shoot. After about 15 minutes, they’re just sitting around, and it can unintentionally detract from the energy and intimacy of your session.
Instead, I’ll be your biggest supporter. From the moment you arrive and settle into hair and makeup, we’ll chat and connect, so you feel comfortable and supported. By the time we start shooting, you’ll feel like you’ve got your own personal cheerleader guiding you every step of the way.
Boudoir photography is a transformative experience, and with a little preparation, you’ll be ready to embrace every moment. Trust the process, lean into the fun, and let the magic of boudoir show you just how beautiful and powerful you truly are.
