1) Why did you decide to invest in a boudoir photo shoot? doing a boudoir shoot was something I’ve always wanted to experience for myself. I was too intimidated to Actually do it until I found you, maura. I’ve always been insecure about my body. ive always been curvy and never felt comfortable enough to embrace what i got. my husband who I’ve been with since I was 15, he’s loved me through all my awkward years haha. I wanted to see myself the way he sees me. this was a gift for his birthday but also for me. something i can look back at and be proud of.

2) How did you feel about yourself before your photo shoot? the anxiety was kicking in for sure before my shoot. lol i had to give myself a pep talk to Actually get out of my car. of course my insecurities were kicking in too.

3) How did you feel about yourself after your photo shoot? after my shoot I was walking with my shoulders back because i felt confident. I felt silly that I even was nervous prior to my shoot in the first place! it was so fun

4) Describe your session in 3 words? comfortable fun inspiring

5) What was your favorite part of the boudoir photo shoot? maura was my favorite part! her house/studio is so adorable. from the chalkboard welcome sign at the front door, greeted with the best hug, Mimosa in my hand, getting my hair and makeup done, music playing, being showered with compliments and adorable gift bag when I left.. everything was so wonderful. maura really cares about every single person she shoots. she makes you feel like a million bucks. she puts in the time to make every detail so memorable.

6) What would you say to other women who are considering a boudoir photo shoot? Do It! you won’t regret it I promise. just how you are.. do it!

I know I mention this a few times on my blog but your boudoir photos are YOUR photos, not mine. I am very protective of my client’s privacy and about 80% of my clients remain private. I don’t share photos that I don’t have permission to share. I’m eternally grateful to my clients that allow me to showcase their photos, because I only share real clients – never models!

This beautiful woman has allowed me to share photos that don’t reveal her identity. Here’s her testimonial about her boudoir experience. She’s had two – can’t wait for the third!

“I will be honest in that I didn’t even know what boudoir photography was before I met Maura. She was taking photos at a local 5k I was running. I “liked” her page simply to see if any photos of me made the cut. I started checking out other photos that Maura had taken, but I became particularly interested in the boudoir photography that she was doing.

Now, like many of you, I, too, have insecurities about my body. I was interested in scheduling a shoot, but I didn’t know if it would be worth the money and I wasn’t sure if it was something I could be comfortable doing. Not feeling comfortable in my skin was definitely a reason to avoid scheduling a session. I kept telling myself I shouldn’t spend the money, and I left it at that.

Finally, last fall, Maura posted about sessions she was booking for Christmas. I didn’t have a gift for my husband yet, so I thought, WHY NOT? I finally got up the courage to commit to a shoot and once the deposit was paid, there was no backing out.

I was SUPER nervous about my shoot. Like ridiculously nervous. I made up an elaborate story to tell my husband so he wouldn’t have any idea what was going on. I also was really worried that my husband wouldn’t like the pictures. Looking back on it now, I cannot believe how silly I was.

So I met Maura. First of all, she opens her home to you. Literally, her home is her studio. I was so confused at first! But she welcomes you into her home and she treats you like you have been friends forever. The shoot was amazing. I spent the entire time laughing. I will say that as soon as I walked in the door, I didn’t feel nervous or awkward at all. Not even for one minute. Maura is truly an experience–and I mean that in the absolute best way possible. She is truly FANTASTIC. Not only does she take amazing photos (really, AMAZING), but she gives you so much more than that. Maura helped me get past some of my insecurities. She didn’t look at me and comment on my flaws; instead, she worked to highlight my assets (yes, that is somewhat of a pun LOL). She spent the entire time telling me how I was killing it. She gave me a TON of confidence.

When the pictures finally came– OH MY GOSH. I couldn’t believe it was me. Yes, of course, there’s photo editing, but the pure talent Maura has is visible in every single photo. I just couldn’t believe how amazing the photos looked, and husband agreed! It was by far one of the most unique and meaningful gifts I have been able to give him. And someday, when I’m 80, I’ll have those photos to remind me of what once was.

I hope you made it to the end of this, because I think what I have to say next is the biggest testament to how I feel about Maura and her work. I have scheduled my next session with Maura. She is amazing, and what she does is worth EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY!!”

An Experiment

What can I say? Well, I adore that I have clients (some who turn into muses) that allow me to use them for shoots when I have crazy ideas. I had a new light that I wanted to use. And, by “new” I mean, a light I’ve had for 3 years that I never bothered to use before. It was relatively cheap so I wanted to try it out to see what I could do with it!

I had my assistant, Hannah, with me during the shoot to hold the light exactly the way I wanted it – I have since purchased a stand to put the light on. It was so amazing! I can control the light an make it very dramatic. I always love getting creative in the way I shoot my sessions!

I’ll leave you with just a few photos from the shoot!

OK, so the below photo is one that I was super excited about! I’ve got some perfecting to do of the pose and lighting but I think it’s going to be something I add to every shoot! I love the emotion in the image, and that’s one of the things I’m working on this year – more emotion in photos. I want you to feel something when you look at your images. Your photos should evoke an emotion, and I’m working hard on that this year!

I do love this job and all the time I get to spend with my clients – I thank them profusely for allowing me to take them on this journey!

What It’s Like

It’s hard for me to put into words what it’s like doing a shoot with me. If you read thru my blog, you will see posts that have direct feedback from my clients with insight into their shoot. Over the past year, I’ve done about 5 live shoots in my private Facebook group. I plan to do 3-4 each year – it’s so much fun and it’s great for people to get a glimpse into someone’s photo shoot. My private group is open to all women – I’ll post a button link below so that you can join.

Here’s the thing – I’m NOT a stuffy photographer. I like to smile, I like to have fun, I love to laugh, and I love to make my clients feel good! This is probably evident in the crazy tank tops I’ve started to wear during the shoots! Yup, we get sexy photos in between all the light hearted moments. Photo shoots should be fun — it should be an experience you’ll never forget! I don’t just say in a bland voice, “put your hand there, stand there.” Nope, I’ll jump in and show you the pose, I’ll crack a joke — usually at my expense — but we’ll have a great time CELEBRATING YOU!!!!!

I’ll let the videos speak for themselves…these were some of the live videos posted in my group from my live shoot 3 months ago. I’m sharing some of the finished photos as well so you can see what those look like.

I’ll leave this blog post to my client … here’s what she had to say about her shoot!

1) Why did you decide to invest in a boudoir photo shoot? I originally booked my boudoir shoot as a birthday present for my husband, but it turned into so much more than that. I am not exaggerating when I say that this experience changed my life. What was supposed to be a fun gift for him, turned into the gift of a lifetime, FOR ME.

2) How did you feel about yourself before your photo shoot? I booked this shoot in December 2016, before I was even close to feeling comfortable enough to do it. I had never even wore lingerie before! I was feeling awful about myself, physically and mentally. I made up my mind not to overthink it and just booked the appointment. It was THE BEST motivation! Not only did I lose 28 pounds since that day (in an extremely healthy way), I also started to focus on living my life outside of my comfort zone. My shoot with Maura was step one and I wanted to make sure I did my best and gave it my all. I was excited for the challenge, but extremely nervous.

3) How did you feel about yourself after your photo shoot? How can I even put it into words? I felt like a supermodel. I felt like a rockstar. I felt like I could conquer the world! I don’t think anyone could ever make me feel as comfortable and sexy as Maura did on that day! I joked with her that I wanted to pay her to follow me around, for the rest of my life, and give me compliments! Maura is doing exactly what she was put on this Earth to do; to empower women and show them their beauty & worth, especially when they can’t see it on their own. I’m so happy that my Google search led to her! It truly makes my heart sad to think that I was one mouse click away from never meeting this phenomenal woman!

4) Describe your session in 3 words? Empowering. Fun! Can I say life-altering without sounding too dramatic?

5) What was your favorite part of the boudoir photo shoot? I’m gonna go with the consensus and say.. Maura! Seriously ladies, I cannot speak highly enough about Maura and the way she performs her job. We had some pretty serious chemistry happening! I’d pay the session fee again just to hang out with her for a few hours!

6) What would you say to other women who are considering a boudoir photo shoot? Don’t over analyze it. Just book it and don’t look back! Do it for you, even if it’s a gift for someone else, do the shoot and experience it FOR YOU. Take it all in, brag about yourself, show it all off! I may just hang up my pictures in my dining room! I don’t ever want to forget how amazing and beautiful Maura made me feel. I thought this was going to be a “one and done” type of thing, another check off the bucket list.. I was VERY wrong. I will be booking again!
