Sometimes inspiration comes from all places.  People ask all the time where I get inspiration for my boudoir shoots.  The most obvious answer is that inspiration is found in each of my clients.  I had a client ask me recently if I ever get bored – I said HECK NO!!!  Each client is different, outfits are different, and – most importantly – my connection with each client is unique – I could never get bored!  But, I do look for inspiration in all places…art museums, TV shows, architecture.  I tend to see things differently.

When I get inspired for a shoot, I typically ask one of my past clients to be a muse for something I’m envisioning.  Any client that has let me share their photos on my blog is on a short list of who I approach when I need to test something out.  This beautiful woman was one of those individuals.  I adore her lips, her eyes and her glorious curves!

I had the idea to do some different types of posing and lighting for my shoots.  And, at the end of her shoot from testing those changes (more coming on the blog soon about that) I decided to do something I hadn’t done in a few years – use some tulle!  The tulle setup is something that’s so classic and pure, and I find that it really lets my clients shine in their boudoir photos.  No fancy props, no outrageous outfits – just a gorgeous woman wrapped in some tulle!  It really brought me back and I enjoyed it so much.  A lot has changed in my work since I last used tulle in my shoots – and more importantly, the emotion in my images has changed.  So, I loved seeing the “New Maura” with an old setup!

I’m completely convinced that every woman should do a tulle session!  Since posting some of these photos in my private boudoir group on Facebook, clients have been asking to incorporate tulle into their shoots — oh yes!!!

Here are just a few photos:

I’m going to leave the blog today to this 50 year old beauty who came in for a session to reward herself!  She’s been thru so much and takes care of so many others that I was so honored to get to spend some time just celebrating her!  She’s absolutely amazing and KILLED IT during her boudoir!  Remember, it’s not just for young women – I have women of all ages invest in a boudoir photo shoot with me! 🙂

The Experience of being a Client

33

Yup, this is me – Maura Chick – in my boudoir glory!  I’m NOT ASHAMED of what I do for my clients so I think it’s only fair that I share with about my boudoir experience last year….along with some photos!

This is my second boudoir.  The first was back in 2013.  I decided that I needed to do another boudoir because I didn’t want to lose touch with how it feels to be a client.  I need to know what it’s like to be you – going to someone you don’t know, stripping down, and standing in front of a camera.  I know that I’m able to get my clients to relax quickly – otherwise my photos would be crap.  But, I was wondering if during this session I would be able to turn the photographer off in me.  “Why is she shooting from that direction?  This isn’t going to look good.” etc.  🙂

I was able to relax for the most part and allow her to work – I had a couple of ideas for posing, which she tried.  And, I will say that I styled myself perfectly!

If you want to read about my experience, you can join my private Facebook group, as I shared all the juicy details there.

What I want to talk about in this blog post is something I’ve been reflecting on for a while.  Since late last year, I’ve been a part of the Flourish Academy, which is an educational site for photographers.  I have written some blog posts about what I’ve learned in my journey thru photography, as well as done some live videos on our Facebook page just about every day life as a photographer.  I had people asking me what I attribute my success to, so in this post, I’m highlighting that.  This isn’t to boast or be cocky, but I truly believe I’m successful because of my passion and perseverance!  Other key areas are below:

~I over prepare my clients.  I’m with my clients every step of the way and that starts at the time they initially contact me about a session.  And upon booking, I send them the most extensive boudoir session guide I’ve ever seen!  Any question they have, it’s in the guide.  I want to make sure they are prepared from beginning to end.  I also send some tips to them along the way via email.  I also offer pre-session consultations if they need to come in and chat before their shoot.

~The experience I give my clients is top notch.  Yup, I truly believe that the experience is beyond wonderful, and I’m always looking for ways to make it better for my clients.  I want clients to leave their shoot FEELING beautiful and happy…and with their shoulders back and some confidence in their step!

~The reason I’m successful is because of me.  Gosh, that’s not supposed to be cocky.  But, I know what I’m doing…this is my PASSION!  There is nothing else in life for me to do but be a boudoir photographer!  I love working with women and I think that my clients are able to see and FEEL my passion for the job!  My focus is my clients and my experience, and that makes me successful.  I always tell other photographers – you can’t fake passion!  I have so many repeat clients because I’m able to connect with people, and my clients a truly special to me!

PS … I’ll do it another boudoir shoot this year.  Because, after all I’m worth it.  I will invest in myself.  I deserve it.

~Salma Hayek

Today, I want to share with you about a client’s third session with me!  She’s a wonderful woman who has been so good to me!  A few weeks ago, I shared a blog post about what she had to say about her shoot.  You should listen to what she says – she’s actually had a boudoir shoot with another photographer and 3 with me.  She understands what sets me apart from others and I’m so grateful for her support!

Who is She? This gorgeous beauty is a mom of three kids who runs two (or is it 3?!?) very successful businesses.  She’s recently separated from her husband but love has a funny way of working itself back to you!  There’s lots in store for her as the next year approaches.  Wink, wink.

Why Did She Do a Boudoir Photo Shoot?  This one was just for her.  The other 2 shoots she did were for her husband’s Christmas gift.  She decided to do something just for herself after all she’d been thru.

What Were Her Lingerie Selections?  Well, she used two pieces from my wardrobe collection – the black corset and the blue bodysuit.  She brought 2 bra and panty sets from Victoria’s Secret and used a hockey jersey as a fun outfit.  She looked amazing in everything!

Favorite Moment:  The laughs, the connection and the bond I share with her!  She’s so wonderful and we have so much fun.  She always shows up early, even though I tell clients not to, so we just sit down and have a good chat about everything going on in her life!

Today, a Chick Clique beauty talks about her SECOND boudoir session with me!  She’s addicted! haha.  She calls herself a plain Jane, but I’ll tell you something – I didn’t see one ounce of plain Jane during her shoot!

Here’s what she had to say:

boudoir photos in pittsburghbest boudoir photographer pittsburgh

1) Why did you decide to invest in a boudoir photo shoot?  I think I’m addicted. Lol. I hadn’t even had the pictures from the first boudoir photo shoot a week and I signed up for a second time. I am always the one that puts others first and will hold off on doing this for myself, so I wanted another me day. Those days never happen. I never dreamed I’d get one, let alone two of them! Mauras awesome too! 🙂

2) How did you feel about yourself before your photo shoot?  Plain Jane. No really I did. I feel like I fade into the background. I’m there when someone needs me and always will be, I’m quirky and outspoken and love to laugh but none the less I never feel special.boudoir photographer pittsburghboudoir photographer pittsburghboudoir photography pittsburghboudoir photographer pittsburgh

3) How did you feel about yourself after your photo shoot?  Immediately following the photo shoot I went to dinner, and jokingly told my friend via text with a picture and a caption ‘Back to my Plain Jane self!’. She responded ‘Youve never been Plain Jane’ It’s not quite a week since I was at the studio and I’m just in awe of myself, and this gorgeous side that Maura helps to bring out of me. I’m still floating on cloud 9, and truly do wish there was a way to bottle this feeling. I feel sexy and like I had a huge confidence boost!boudoir photos pittsburghboudoir photos pittsburgh

4) Describe your session in 3 words?  Exhilarating, amazing, fearlessboudoir photos pittsburghboudoir photography pittsburgh

5) What was your favorite part of the boudoir photo shoot?  Everything? Lol honestly, it’s the experience as a whole that makes every pose I held, each amazing outfit change, and hearing the encouragement and excitement in the room something I’ll never forget. The energy during the boudoir photo shoot is inspiring and makes me want to go back again and again.boudoir photography pittsburgh

6) What would you say to other women who are considering a boudoir photo shoot?  Go for it!!! It was one of the best experiences of my life and I don’t regret either one now for a second. I would relive it each day if I could!
