I truly want women to love themselves and feel good about who they are.  We are often our worst critics – nitpicking at every single thing we perceive as flaws.  In this blog post, I want to give you 6 tips – things to do when you are feeling down about yourself.

Please take this advice to heart!  It’s something I’ve done for myself and always feel better when I do it.

6 Tips for when you are feeling down about yourself

1. You have to surround yourself with positive people.  All the negativity needs to get out of your life immediately, being around these types of people will only bring you down further. The decisions may be hard because you might be extremely close with some of these individuals, but you need to be around people that encourage you and can keep you moving in the right direction. Rid yourself today of all of those that bring you down while you are down until you can bring yourself back up.
2. Listen to peppy music and dance as if no one is watching.  Listening to great music and moving around changes your outlook on things.  I have been really enjoying the new Justin Timberlake song – I dance to it all the time and I feel so good afterwards.
3. Posture dictates your feelings and how you are viewed by others.  Best thing you can do for yourself is to use the victory stance.  Place your hands on your hips, shoulders back, feet hip width apart (like Clark Kent) and stand there for about two minutes.  Another way to do this is to put your arms up in a high v like you are running through the finish line at the end of a race.  This will make a huge impact on your attitude.  Seriously.  Posture is important.
4. Create an album in your phone and include only images that make you happy whether they are photos of you, your family, kids, a vacation, add some inspirational quotes.  Look at every time you start to feel down.
5. Focus on the things that you love about yourself, not the things that you want to change or what you don’t like. Really look at and focus on what you love about yourself.  For me, I love my eyes – so I focus on my eyes!
6. Last but not least, get your fan out, blow it in your face and hair and strike some budoir poses with your favorite music playing.  🙂

Love who you are at this moment.  Life is better when you love!

When I get feedback from a client, it’s something truly life changing for me.  Hearing from them how much this experience has impacted their life is something I have a hard time putting into words.  This client perfectly highlighted how amazing a boudoir photo shoot can be.  Sexy images are a bonus, it’s about the experience.

“Maura,

I have spent the last week trying to sort through the multitude of emotions I have had since my session; all in an attempt to express how truly grateful I am to have met you and to have had this experience.

The day of my shoot when you showed me that picture on the bed I remember saying, “Oh my God, is this how [my fiancé] sees me?” He never fails to tell me how beautiful I am but, I never TRULY believed him. The whole drive home that was the thought that kept playing in my mind…”Is this how he sees me?”….ONE PICTURE.

Then last night at work I got your email of my gallery. Of course I had to open it and take a quick peek, OMG…my first thought was, “Who is this woman?”. I was literally shaking, then the tears began, I could not believe how utterly stunning the woman I was staring at was in fact ME. I could not wait to get home to look at the rest. Maura, I can not even put into words how I felt (and still feel)…more than beautiful, it is a renewal of self-confidence.

We as women, no matter small, medium or large have this unique gift of dissecting and enlarging our tiniest of flaws; for degrading our bodies; for focusing on (what we perceive) the negative aspects of ourselves; for not giving ourselves credit for how truly magnificent we are, the list is endless. We are in fact, our own worst critiques. Through your amazing gift, you have changed that for me. Those wrinkles and bit of cellulite,and that not so “model perfect” body I critiqued everyday when I looked in the mirror don’t matter as much anymore. This woman, this body has bore and raised two children; cares for and shows compassion everyday on her job; has a beautiful heart; sheds tears for those less fortunate than her.

I never thought of myself as “that pretty”, let alone beautiful or stunning, now it’s kinda like “Oh yea….you see me but, I have a little secret…I’M HOT and amazing”. 🙂

Thank you so much for taking the extra time with me to do the poses on the floor, I have a feeling they will be my favorites. I have no idea how I am going to choose between all of my photos. I want to take out a 5 page spread in the paper and shout “Hey this is me, I am beautiful.” LOL.

Enough babbling.

Maura, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have a wish for you…..Please, in your attempt to make women feel and see their own true beauty, DO NOT forget yourself and your own beauty, take time for YOU. You are an inspiring, incredible and TRULY beautiful woman.

 I’m calling my client interviews my Pillow talk series.  I’m conducting them in the studio on the bed with champagne, flowers, books and some motivational talk.  I want potential clients to hear from past clients directly about their boudoir experience.  There’s only so much I can say about it so I let my clients speak for themselves.

Sharing this experience with so many amazing women is truly special and I’m so thankful to have these supportive women in my life.  They openly put themselves out there for me in so many ways and I thank them for doing crazy things like this for me.

Mandy is an awesome wedding photographer who has an amazing perspective about boudoir shoots.  She loved the feeling she had after her shoot and that I consider a complete success.  For me, my job is to make you feel good.  Photos are a bonus!  Seriously, the photos are important and I know I can knock it out of the park with my photos, but my experience is what sets me apart.  You are my only focus from the moment you step into the studio until the time you leave.  It’s you and me, baby … and we’ll have loads of fun.
