Today’s post in my 2015 blogging series is about picking your boudoir photographer.  There are many different photographers out there – all with different experience, packages and price points.  While price is important, there is so much more than that to picking your photographer.

Choosing Your Boudoir Photographer - How to know if you've found the photographer for you - www.PicsByChicksPhotography.com - Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer

My first tip is a simple question – when you look at their photos, how do they make you feel?

Photography should make you feel something – and looking at a boudoir photographer’s photos should give you a feeling about their work.  Do you like what you see?  Even better  – do you love what you see?

But most importantly, do you want to be the woman in the photos?  Boudoir photography should be something attainable for all women and you should want to be that woman in the photos.  You should feel comfortable that you CAN be that woman in the photos!

Look at a few photos from different sessions – each photo shoot can have their own feel and evoke their own emotions.  Each and every client is different.

When you ask questions, your photographer should have answers.

I am always asked tons of questions from clients and I always have answers.  ALWAYS.  And, I even have reference material for them upon asking the questions.  I want my clients to know that boudoir is my area of expertise and I know what’s going to work, what won’t work, how to prepare, what to do, what not to do, etc.  I’ve been through a lot in my boudoir journey and I haven’t met a question I haven’t been able to answer.

My #1 tip in helping people choose a photographer – what can you tell about the women in the photos?

You should see women of all sizes in a photographer’s collection so that you know they can pose different body types.

Do the women look comfortable and at ease?

And, most importantly in my book, do they look confident?

One of the greatest compliments I received from a client was when she said this in her initial inquiry to me….

“I want to feel beautiful and every picture I see you do is so classy and gorgeous. The women all look so confident. I love that!”

That’s exactly how you should feel when you look at your boudoir photographer’s photos!

What else do you think you should look for in a boudoir photographer beside price?  Leave your comments below.

An Amazing Beauty

As I continue my journey towards becoming Pittsburgh’s best boudoir photographer, sometimes I just have no words after a photo shoot is complete.  And this session is one of those.  I had the best time with her that I have a hard time putting into words how awesome her session was for me.  It was simply perfection.

When a client arrives at the studio for their photo shoot, the fun begins.  We talk, hang up your items, champagne is poured and the laughs begin.  I always hear that ladies are excited but nervous – that’s completely normal.  But, one thing I pride myself on is being able to get those nerves out quickly, and there are a lot of things I do to accomplish this.

First things first, my passion for boudoir photography certainly comes to light as soon as that camera comes up to my face.  I read in one of my personal development books that people need to feel your passion for them and the subject – that’s goal #1 in my boudoir sessions.  If you can’t see and feel my passion for this job, then I haven’t done my job.  Plain and simple.  I love that my job is my passion, and I recognize how lucky that makes me.  I’ve been told my friends and family that it’s rare to love what you do, and coming from corporate america, I can certainly relate.  I love being a boudoir photographer and my journey towards becoming the best boudoir photographer in Pittsburgh continues…. 🙂

Enjoy some photos from her photo shoot – there is more to come – but for now, just a few in this floral bra & panty set from Victoria’s Secret!

The White Shirt {Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer}

Producing a boudoir photo can be magic for me!  For a while now, I’ve been building my boudoir outfit collection so that I can offer additional styling options to clients during their session.  While clients typically bring their own outfits, I wanted to be able to show them different types of items that we could use throughout their boudoir session in my Pittsburgh studio.

I know that a lot of clients get stressed out when trying to shop for their outfits for their boudoir photo shoot, and this is one of the main reasons I started to build a collection of items.  Sometimes you don’t know what will work for your shoot so I wanted to be able to offer some options for clients who may be a little unsure.  I’ll be blogging more of the outfits in my collection so that you can all see what I am able to offer those ladies that aren’t sure what to buy.

This beautiful woman showed up with a matching bra & panty set … that’s it!  Everything else we used during her photo shoot was from my collection.  It was so nice to be able to put some of these items to use!

This blog post has a bunch of boudoir photo around the sheer white shirt that I have in multiple sizes.  Plus, lace panties that I ALWAYS have in stock in a variety of sizes.

I love this shirt … everything about it is perfect for a boudoir session.  Add in some of my jewelry and it’s absolutely awesome!  Now, I love this shirt so much that I bought it in white & black.  Yes, I’m one of those people that when I find something I like, I buy it in every color possible! 🙂

Here are just a few photos from this outfit – ones that are website appropriate.

How to use prints of your boudoir photos {Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer}

My next boudoir tip is focused on what to do with your photos!  That’s a question I even get asked by my mother — “what do these ladies do with the photos?”

Good question, Mom!

3 Ways to use prints from your boudoir photo shoot - www.PicByChicksPhotography.com - Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer - Helpful boudoir photo shoot planning blogs

If you aren’t going to get an album made, consider prints!!

I know that these photos are intimate in nature and it may be hard for you to get prints made of your images, but I have some ideas for you.

Peak-a-Boo

Here’s a tip I received from a boudoir photographer that I follow.  Hang a super sexy photo from your session in their closet — behind their clothes.  So, when he spreads apart those items that are hanging he sees YOU!  Imagine the smile on his face as he gets dressed – I’d say you’d start the day off right every single day.

Another awesome idea from a client.  Her husband had a garage and she decided to get a poster size print from her photo shoot and hung it up.  She just waited for him to notice the photo of her – big surprise for him!

Folio boxes

Pick a bunch of your favorite photos and create a folio box that he can keep by his bedside.  He can pick up the box and flip thru the photos whenever he wants.  Your photographer should offer this option when purchasing photos.

Bold & Beautiful

Most photographers will provide you with some photos that are not over the top and overly sexual.  Print one of those photos and hang it up on the wall in the bedroom.  My clients typically pick a photo that is less risqué that they would be comfortable with their family seeing.  I always try to incorporate some of these photos in the collection I provide to clients just for this purpose.  Whenever they look at that photo not he wall, they can think about the full collection of photos!

I also want to encourage you to order prints through your photographer.  I always tell my clients that the gallery I provide them to order photos is protected and I have a strict privacy policy with my gallery company.  It’s important to protect these photos.  If you have them printed at Target, Walmart or any other online service, you have no idea what’s happening to your photos.  Please be very cautious with these photos!  OK, I’m off my soapbox now!

Anything else you’d do with photographic prints of your images?  Leave your comments below.
