What to Wear – Boudoir – Tummy Control {Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer}

Continuing my 2015 blogging series with boudoir photo shoot tips and tricks.  Up today is how to dress your body if you are concerned about your stomach.  I hear a lot from my friends that they can’t do a boudoir session because of their middle section, and the always popular “I’ll do a photo shoot when I lose some weight.”  I guarantee you a few things – 1) It’s probably not as bad as you think; 2) the right boudoir photographer knows posing that would minimize your concerns; 3) the right outfits will make you feel comfortable.

Here are some things that I recommend when searching for your boudoir wardrobe if you are concerned about your mid-section.

Corset from Yandy - What to Wear to cover tummy - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir PhotographerCorsets

I just can’t say enough good things about corsets.  They work for all body types! They enhance so many different areas of the body and I must say that I personally love to photograph these.  Corsets, especially bone-in corsets, pull in all the right places and, in the case of those with a tummy, pull in and flatten the area you may be concerned with.  Not all corsets are the same though so please make sure that you try a few on and decide on those that work best for your body.  Remember, corsets are supposed to be a little tight but you need to be able to breathe! 🙂  This awesome corset is from Yandy.com.  I’ve actually photographed this a few times and it looks great in photos.

BabydollsBabydoll - What to Wear Boudoir for tummy - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer

Babydoll lingerie can perfectly cover up any areas that you may be concerned with.  I love baby dolls and chemises on almost all my clients, and something so simple can be made very sexy in images.  Buy these items in fun and flirty colors for an added touch to your session.  The possibilities are endless in your options for babydoll lingerie sets.  Check out some of my favorite sites for boudoir outfits – click here.  The babydoll pictured here is from AdoreMe.com.

Sheer Top - What to Wear to disguise tummy concerns - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir PhotographerLace Tops

I love lace.  I have found in my photography that the use of lace tops as an overlay of you bra and panties works really well to conceal and area you may be concerned with.   I love these tops so much that I’ve even purchased a few for my collection to offer to clients during their shoot.  Lace also adds a very sexy feel to your outfits.This lace top is from Zulily.  Make sure to find a color that complements your lingerie and you still want to be able to see the bra underneath the top.

Slips & ShapersWhat to wear - Boudoir - to hide tummy & stomach - Slips and Shapewear - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer

I love these form-fitting slips & shape wear intimate items  They have multiple purposes just like corsets.  The thing I love about this slip is that in really pulls in the stomach.  This is another great find from Zulily.  Dress this up with some killer jewelry and hells and it’s another perfect boudoir outfit.

lbGarter belts & garter skirts

I found this item at Lane Bryant.  Look for garter belts and even garter skirts that are high-waisted.  These will pull in and conceal the tummy area.  Plus, they are super sexy with a pair of stocking.  But, remember – finding something that is high-waisted is key.

High-waisted pantieshc

Speaking of high-waisted, consider including high waisted panties with a bra.  Get some cute panties with lace or a subtle pattern and it works really well.  I’m not talking about “granny panties” – high-waisted items can be super sexy in boudoir shoots especially with the way photographers pose you during the shoot!  This set here is from Hips & Curves.

You should also check out my blog post on modest wardrobe options for your boudoir photo shoot – click here.  These pieces could work really well for you if you want to conceal with your stomach.

ONE WORD OF CAUTION

Ladies, please take this advice to heart.  Whatever you do, do not purchase items that are much larger than you are!  While I understand that you may want to conceal this area, I assure you that purchasing an outfit that is big doesn’t do you justice.  Please find items that fit well and have very little “extra” fabric.  Do not get lace tops that are overly large and create extra volume – let me be honest – it just makes you look bigger!  That’s my word of caution when doing your shopping.

Any other items you’d consider for those try to conceal their tummy?  Leave your comments below.

Alivia’s First Holy Communion {Pittsburgh Children Photographer}

What an absolute pleasure for me to meet this lovely young lady and take some portraits of her in her communion dress!  Due to the bitter cold here in Pittsburgh, we opted for a studio session!

Alivia is one of the brightest, funniest and beautiful young girls I’ve had the privilege of photographing.

She was so excited to get dressed up – we had so much fun taking photos.  She kept wanting to spin and have her dress fluffed out – it was like playing dress up when I was younger.

I consider the photo shoot a full success when your little client asks you to be their babysitter – you know you’ve made a connection with them at that point!

Here are just a few photos from her session.  This was so much fun – like posing a little bride!

What to Wear – Boudoir – Small Chest {Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer}

We’re starting the third month of my boudoir session tips and I’m having fun doing this!  Don’t get me wrong – it’s a lot of work to  write these blog posts, but I’m learning a lot myself.  It’s a win-win for us all!

Today we’re talking about what to wear if you are small chested.  I could only wish these tips pertained to me – isn’t that always the way it works – small breasts wish they were bigger; larger breasts wish they were smaller!  What the conundrum.

What to wear for your boudoir photo shoot if you have small breasts - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer

Here are some ideas for those ladies with smaller chest.

Embellishments & Lace

Look for items with embellishments.  It’s always nice to have the eye focus on a part of the lingerie.  Look for lace lined items or even those items with a little sparkle on it.  With the proper posing this will enhance your bust.  This beautiful bra here is from Frederick’s of Hollywood.  It’s gorgeous lace details can provide the illusion needed.

lace demi braDemi Bras

Demi bras are great for small chests – they’re designed specifically for you in mind.  These bras work very well for small chests because it’s designed to cover only half the breast.  Some, but not all, demi bras even have nice padding built in so it gives you a little boost.  My favorite site for bras for small bust is Lulalu.com.  This is the Camille demi cup bra.

Corset for Boudoir Shoot - What to Wear Small Chest - Pics By Chicks PhotographyCorsets

Oh corsets!  The love of my boudoir photography life.  Corsets work for all body types – every single one.  The reason they work well for small chests is that they cinch in at the waist and give you curves.  Those curves enhance the appearance of your bust.  The corset here is from AdoreMe.com.  When shopping for corsets, you want one that will pull in your waist but make sure it’s not too tight so you can breathe! 🙂

Push-Up Bras

Push Up Bra - What to Wear Small Chest - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer

Yes, this is probably the most obvious choice when deciding what types of bras to purchase for your boudoir photo shoot.  Push up bras do just exactly as they were designed to do – push everything up – even if you have just a little.  Again, keep in mind some of my other tips – lace, embellishments, etc.  This push-up bra is from Forever21.com.  To answer your obvious question – yes, I search everywhere for lingerie selections – don’t limit yourself to just Victoria’s Secret.

Sheer Top - What to Wear - Small Chest - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir PhotographerSheer Tops

One other thing I love to do with my smaller chested clients is add a sheer or lace overlay to their bras.  While it can add some extra bulk to their outfits, it can really enhance the appearance of your breasts.  I know this may be obvious but make sure you can see thru the tops that you choose and limit patterns – we have to be able to see the bra for these items to have the desired effect.  This sheer top is from Nordstrom.

BlousesBlouse from ModCloth - What to Wear Small Chest - Pics By Chicks Photography - Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer

Similar to sheer tops, think about blouses.  While I was researching sheer tops, I found this beautiful blouse from ModCloth!  Imagine this beautiful blouse with no bra underneath – just a gorgeous pair of panties!  The lace detail around the trip would be an accentuation of your breasts!

When all else fails, get your gel inserts!  Just make sure they don’t fall out during your photo shoot (Yes, it happens)!

As always, posing & editing will be crucial to enhancing this area, if that’s what you desire.  Please remember to talk to your boudoir photographer about your body and how much editing liberties we can take.  This is one of the keys in ensuring a successful session!

At the end of the day, embrace what you have.  Your body is amazingly beautiful in every way!

Boudoir Editing & Contouring {Pittsburgh Boudoir Photographer}

As I work with more and more ladies from the Pittsburgh and surrounding areas, I find that the question of editing always pops up.  What can I do?  Can’t I do?  What magic can I work to enhance their beauty?  (I’m all about enhancing what you have – NOT giving you tons of things you don’t)

The client below really loved these shorts and wanted a photo without a shirt but was very concerned about her stomach – in her words, “lots of stretch marks, a pooch, loose skin and skin fold”.  I assured her that there weren’t any troubles with it because I knew I could work on it in editing.  I purposely took this photo to show her – and you all – after editing that I can work some magic on this area.  And, guess what – this photo is on the first page of her album!

I’m actually very proud of my editing abilities.  It’s something I work tireless on and spend hours upon hours UPON HOURS of learning how to use my tools to make these adjustments to photos.  While posing is a large part of my boudoir skills and getting it right in camera, there was nothing aside from hiding her stomach that could have made this better in posing.  A great boudoir photographer knows how to edit.

This certainly isn’t the hardest photo I’ve edited but it’s a great example of what can be accomplished.  Thanks to my client for letting me share this photo.

The editing seen here is a combination of a lot of skills I use on all my boudoir photos.  The photos I present to clients have been hand edited and fully retouched, and this makes me love my photos even more because I spend time on them.

Don’t let one area of concern hold you back from doing a boudoir shoot – they are the best!!!!
