Mommy & Me – Carla & Abbie {Pittsburgh Portrait & Family Photographer}

Mommy & Me sessions….not just for young kids!  What a treat to photography this mother/daughter duo.  I met Carla & Abbie when I began volunteering with the youth group at church.  My life has been enriched with their love, support, kindness and faithfulness over these last few years.  It was a fun session … as is usually the case with The Chicks!

Just a few shots from our afternoon with this lovely pair!

Such a sweet moment.  The wind was blowing Abbie’s hair into her face and Carla immediately jumped into action.

When I look at the below picture, I feel like Swan Lake!

I love how Abbie is looking at Carla in this picture!

Mommy & Me – Amanda & Audrey {Pittsburgh Portrait & Family Photographer}

I had the immense pleasure of doing a very quick photo shoot with Amanda & Audrey on Friday.  Amanda is my oldest friend – we first met in second grade and have been friends ever since.

Amanda moved to Florida a few years ago so it’s a real treat to be able to see her – those very rare ocassions.  She was married a few weeks after Tony and me … at the end of December 2011.  ~11 months later her daughter, Audrey, was born.  My heart is filled with love and joy as I think about all of Amanda’s dreams coming true.  God has been so good to her and Chris.  And, when I look at Amanda and Chris, I SEE God.  I remember being at their wedding and watching them during the ceremony and I could see the face of God coming through in those two – so much so that I wondered how anyone could doubt there was a God.  It made me cry.  Two people so connected and so on fire for Jesus is an amazing thing to witness.

I have so many great memories with Amanda (You Don’t Know Jack game nights, sleepovers, makeovers, General Hospital, trips to Phipps Conservatory, etc) but meeting her beautiful daughter ranks near to the top of the list.

Both are such beauties.  I can’t wait to see them again!!!  I think a trip to Florida may be coming soon….

Mommy loves those baby kisses!

Using my artistic touch here to highlight the lovely headbands worn by both mother & daughter.  As far back as I can remember, Amanda has rocked these headbands and I fully expect Audrey to follow in her footsteps – she wore two different headbands while I was there.

A beautiful little dumpling.  I love those cheeks and soft lips…and lets not forget the eyes!

Mommy & Me – Beth & Millie! {Pittsburgh Family & Portrait Photographer}

I had a great time with Beth and Millie in a Mommy & Me session, which is a GREAT Mother’s Day gift.  Beth has been a stay at home mom since the birth of her second daughter, Norah.  It was a wonderful morning with mom and daughter at Brady’s Run Park.   Millie was consistently distracted by the nearby playground…so we gave into her and let her play.  We might have been on our way to another meltdown series of photos – the last time I photographed Millie she had a meltdown when her dad took her sippy cup away from her.  No such incident at this shoot though we did have a couple close calls.

Here are a few shots from our session.

I LOVE seeing a mother laugh like this.  LOVE.  LOOOOVVVVEEE!!!!  Beth and Millie were walking away from me and I had them stop and turn around and look at me.  Beth put her hand on Millie’s head to turn it for her and Millie said, “Mom, don’t turn my ear!”  Beth burst out laughing and I was glad I had the camera ready.

I asked Millie to put her head in her hands and put them on the floor.  I demonstrated for her and the below is what she gave me.  Beth and I both bust out laughing.  Guess this 2 year old isn’t ready to be a model but she sure is a cutie! 🙂

This mommy is beautiful!!!

Such a tender moment

The Chicks….In Front of the Camera {Pittsburgh Portrait Photographer}

At the advice of a mentor of mine, Tony and I spent some time this weekend taking pictures of each other.  I think this benefits us in knowing how it feels for our clients.  It’s awkward having a camera in your face, right?!?  Yeah, it is.  I remember at our engagement session over a year and a half ago (when Pics By Chicks wasn’t even a thought in our mind) our photographer said “Go over there and just be yourself.”  What?!?!  Be myself when I know a photographer is there with a camera ready to take pictures???  Am I supposed to smile, laugh, kiss, hug…what!  Give me some direction.  It was hard because I didn’t know how to act.  We did get some direction when we got a little more comfortable but it was a challenge for us to act natural in this instance.  But, the end result was great – we LOVED our engagement photos.

During our session this week, I felt what I felt at our engagement session, and I understand it better now how our clients might feel.  I needed this reminder.  Not everyone is an aspiring model – and men in particular seem very uncomfortable.   It is our job as photographers to make you feel at ease and get you to trust us that the end product will be amazing.  We’ll ask you to pose, to do certain things – it may feel weird but we know what we’re doing.  🙂

Here are some shots of The Chicks.

NOTE:  I’m wearing Premier Designs Jewelry, for which I’m now a jeweler.  If you have any interest in seeing other jewelry, please let me know.

Lauren – {Pittsburgh Portrait Photographer}

I had the pleasure of doing a portrait session with Lauren.  It was a great day – yet again very chilly.  When is spring going to arrive?!?  I’m sick of the cold weather and I want to get our photography subjects surrounded by some color!

Lauren is an amazing event planner!  If you want her contact information to plan any event you may be having, please contact us.

What a beauty! There were so many great shots that I had a hard time picking which ones I wanted to put on the site.

Styling:  Lauren was her own stylist (with some feedback/approval by me)

Location:  We shot at a few places.  First was the train museum in Beaver, PA.  Second stop was a park near the river in Bridgewater, PA.  Last stop was Reed Ranch where Lauren has planned weddings.
