Do you think the women in my photos aren’t real women? Well, they are. Here is the story a client shared in my private Facebook group that I’d like you to hear:
“Hey everyone!!! So I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to say this but….I finally got to experience my boudoir photo session yesterday! Woohoo!!!! Lol.
I love pushing my limits and I’ve always wanted to do this, for myself. I don’t see myself as ‘gorgeous’ or ‘beautiful’ and like every other woman my eyes usually zero in on whatever perceived flaw I have, and I’ve mastered which way to tilt my face in pictures my friends take when we’re out, because yes, I have a ‘side I look better from’. Never the less, back in February of this year I decided to start looking for a photographer, and did the only thing I could think of- I googled ‘boudoir photography, PA’ and up popped Maura’s name.
I read a little about Pics by Chicks, and witnessed for the first time the wonder that is Maura and the gorgeous images she produces. I emailed her on a whim just to see what she said regarding the process, and her personality came through in her reply and I immediately knew that this amazing woman was going to be the one I had take my pictures.
Then came the hard part- waiting. Anyone who knows me knows I am one of the most impatient people ever. I tried to keep it to myself and failed miserably- within 24 hours of signing up I had told my best friend, my sister, and my now ex boyfriend. He admitted to have to google ‘boudoir’ but supported that I wanted to do this (I mean lets be honest, I wasn’t worried about him being on board about my being photographed in lingerie). I think he enjoyed thinking about it too because said ex boyfriend was deployed at the time and wouldn’t be back home until a few days after the photo session happened. I think I started window shopping immediately, I was excited and nervous and just wanted to find every piece the first day. I’m pretty sure that over the course of the following months between February and August I bought and returned more items than the average woman. I also emailed poor Maura several times with any question that popped into my head. Thank goodness she humored me with each one.
So as August 5th grew closer and my nerves began to build, I realized the ex was acting distant, and talking with me less and less before his arrival home. Long story short, he was using me for the purpose of communication, and food, and fantasy while he was gone, and as the day grew closer to return he didn’t need me anymore. I was all in, no questions asked, willing to do distance and wait, and he just decided I wasn’t enough. I found all of this out the day before the boudoir photo session. I let Maura know, and tried to hold it together so my eyes wouldn’t be puffy from crying the next day.
I left super early in the morning (did I mention I don’t live near [the studio]?), and for the first time in my life I was early. Maura greeted me with a hug and her personality radiated as soon as I walked in the door. There was just so much love, happiness, and encouragement from her. I was whisked into the whirlwind of hair and makeup and I believe my reaction was ‘shit! Omg I can’t believe that’s me!!! I love it’ when I saw myself in the mirror.
Maura explained how her process worked and I apologized cause I knew I’d be laughing during the day too. I changed into the first bra and panty set I brought, took a deep breath, and walked out for the first picture of the day. I thought I’d be nervous but Maura has such a welcoming aura about her and such a big heart and kept telling me how amazing I looked, I had to fight the urge to cry more often than not. just the day before I had been cast aside by a ‘man’ (and with his final action of blocking me online I use that term loosely. Jerk seems more fitting) making me feel less than, and in that moment Maura made me feel beautiful, worth so much, and amazing.
I guess my sassy, sexy side had a chance to show it self during the photo session. I felt empowered and like ‘bam, yes this is me. This is what I want. To hell with the ex. This is for ME’. I hated when the day was over and I had to turn back into plain everyday me, and head home. I told Maura later in an email that I could tell her thank you but that would never seem like enough. I am ridiculously ready for the pictures to come so I can attempt to decide which ones to purchase (I’m horrible at decisions so I’m recruiting opinions of friends!), and I’m already ready to do another one! I figure they’re like tattoos- you can never have just one! 😉 if anyone’s on the fence about it, do it. It was one of the best experiences of my life!”
